
Methodology of surface profile filtering and roughness evaluation – Y Munev
Abstract
This paper concerns practical realization of open surface profile filtering and roughness evaluation. The profile is represented in the form of discrete data. A code for applying discrete Gaussian filter to a surface profile in accordance with ISO 16610–21 is presented. Linear interpolation before numerical integration for average roughness calculation is proposed. A method for mean width of the profile elements (Rsm) and material ratio at specific level (Rmr) calculations and the Abbott-Firestone (bearing length) curve construction is proposed. These parameters are given in the standards by definition only, not by formulas. All of the procedures and most of the roughness parameters are provided with MATLAB scripts for implementation or calculation.
